Marisa Kamelgarn earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s Freshman of the Year award the league announced Thursday night at the annual awards banquet, held following the first round of the OVC Tournament. Sophomore
Emma Jonsson was also honored by the OVC, earning First Team All-Conference honors.
Kamelgarn joined Jonsson on the All-Conference First Team and also was named to the All-Freshman Team. The OVC names the Player and Coach of the Year following the conclusion of the tournament.
A native of Mahopac, N.Y., Kamelgarn finished sixth in her second collegiate event and won her third, the Cincinnati Fall Classic. It was there she scored her low round of 70. In all she has seven top-20 finishes in nine events. Six of those were top 10 and four were top five. She has a team-low 75.9 stroke average and is four over relative to par. She was named OVC Golfer of the Week three times over the course of the 2009-10 season.
Jonsson ranks number two in stroke average at MSU with a 77.6. She has six top-20 finishes in nine events, four of which were top 10 and two in the top five. A Taby, Sweden native, she has a low round of 73 and is six over relative to par this season. She earned OVC Golfer of the Week once during the spring season.
The Eagles are currently tied for third place at the 54-hole championship, which is being played at GreyStone Golf Club. Kamelgarn leads MSU and is second overall and Jonsson is right behind her, tied for third overall
