MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State football coach
Matt Ballard announced Wednesday the addition of 38 players to the Eagle football squad for the 2010 season.
The 2010 recruiting class includes two special teams players, 19 defensive players and 17 offensive players. The players represent 12 different states with the majority of the players joining MSU from Ohio, Kentucky and Georgia.
“We’re looking forward to working with what I would term a very outstanding class,” Ballard said. “We’ve got a group of young men that really adds balance to our team, and I think we’ve improved greatly in speed and athleticism. Being mostly freshman they will have a big learning curving adjusting to the college game, but we are looking forward to having these guys on our team and them making a tremendous impact.”
Five defensive linemen make up a portion of the 2010 recruiting class. A defensive end from Lithonia, Ga., 6-1, 220-pound
Fred Allen was an All Region 2-AAAAA Georgia at Martin Luther King High School, where he had 42 Tackles, five forced fumbles and 10 tackles for loss. Joining Allen on the defensive line is
Ryan Krummen, a 6-3, 230-pound Cincinnati native. A member of the 2009 Rivals All-Midwest Team, he was named to the Second Team All-Greater Miami Conference, registering 47 tackles and seven sacks as a senior at Lakota West High School.
Evan Moncrief and
Kygh Murff are both defensive linemen from Indianapolis, Ind. Moncrief, a 6-3, 240-pound defensive end, was named to the All-Indiana Conference Team. He earned an All-State nod and led Pike High with 74 tackles, 44 assists, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks and 14 tackles for loss. Moncrief was also named Academic All Conference. Murff also earned Academic All Conference, in addition to being an honorable mention All-Conference team member and North Central High School’s team captain. A 6-1, 255-pound defensive tackle, he was also a three-year letter winner in football and track. The final defensive lineman in the 2010 recruiting class is a defensive tackle from Clinton, Md.
Marcus Williams is a 6-1, 295-pound product of Bishop McNamara High School. He was named Third Team All-WCAC, earned a strongest man award, and lettered three years in football and two years in wrestling. Williams registered 92 tackles, 28 assists, eight sacks and three fumble recoveries his senior year.
The linebacking corps includes five new faces. A 6-0, 205-pound from Groveport-Madison High School,
Jordan Hendrix was named Second Team OCC, and was the All-District Team Defensive MVP. A Florence, Ky. native, he was also the team captain. A native of Stockbridge, Ga., the 5-11, 225-pound
Dillon LiVecche is a three-time All-State academic team member, a three-time All-Region honoree, a three-time All-Southern Crescent honoree, a Wendy’s Heisman state winner, and a three-time time Golden Helmet scholar athlete. A Woodland High School product, he was also a nominee for the High School Football Rudy Award.
Nick McCune, a 5-8, 175-pound Alleghany, Pa. native was a First Team All-Conference-Safety in 2009, and he served as a football and baseball team captain at Montour High School. Columbus, Ohio’s
Corey McSweeney earned All-Ohio, All-Central District, Columbus Dispatch All-Metro, and All-Central Catholic League at Bishop Hartley High School. A team captain, the 6-3, 230-pound McSweeney made 112 tackles as a junior.
Brian Nelson, a native of Westerville, Ohio was among the Ohio Varsity Top 100. A 6-0, 210-pound Westerville Central High School product, he earned Player of the Week, and was also a member of the Westerville Worms Rugby Club.
Nine new defensive backs make the secondary one of the biggest competition spots for the incoming class.
Dillion Blackburn is a 6-0, 180-pound Monterey, Tenn. native that had 72 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 8.5 TFL’s as a senior at Cookeville High School. Akron, Ohio native
John Coleman earned All-Akron City Series Team and was an All-Ohio Division III Special Mention. Coleman is a 5-9, 172-pound Buchtel High School product.
John Ellis Davis is a 5-10, 170-pound native of Sullivan, Tenn. An All-Conference and All-Northeast Tennessee during his junior and senior seasons at Tennessee High School, he helped lead team as a wide receiver and defensive back to an 11-1 record.
Dexter Geohagan is a 6-3, 190-pound transfer from Hudson Valley Community College.
Morris Henry is an Orlando, Fla. native who had 27 tackles, one interception and one fumble forced at Ocoee High School. A 5-9, 170-pound team captain, Henry graduated with honors diploma. Lawrence Central High School product
Andrew Lee earned All-Indiana Conference, IndyStar All-City honorable mention, First Team All-State, and All-Region, with 100 tackles, and six interceptions. A native of Indianapolis, Lee is 6-2 and 185 pounds.
Greg Outland, Jr., a 5-11, 185-pound graduate of Monroe High School in Monroe, Ga., was a Merit Honor Roll student and Player of the Week. He also was All-County in track and field, and a regional finalist in the 110 meter hurdles. University of Kentucky transfer
Rashaad Palmer was a three-year starter at Holmes High School. As a senior, the 6-0, 200-pound Covington, Ohio product scored four rushing touchdowns, six receiving touchdowns and returned a kickoff to the end zone with a year-end total of 888 all-purpose yards. During his junior campaign, he scored three touchdowns on the ground, made two touchdown grabs and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, gaining over 650 all-purpose yards.
Kevin Williamson, the last of the defensive backs, is a 5-11, 182-pound Plano, Texas, native. He was the team most valuable defensive back at The Parish Episcopal School, where he was also on the Dean’s List and honor roll. Williamson led his team with five interceptions as a senior.
Five offensive lineman will form the front line of the 2010 recruiting class. Clearwater, Fla. native
Michael Barber is a 6-5, 285-pound Clearwater High School graduate. A Second Team All-County selection, he was also team captain and team offensive MVP. He started at left tackle in the Palms Pinellas Florida All State Game. Henry Clay High School product
Elijah Barnett was Academic All-State all four years. The 6-2, 290-pound Lexington, Ky., native was the National Schumans Underclassman Combine offensive line MVP. He was also a Lexington Herald-Leader and Louisville Courier-Journal Top 50 Player. He was the Kentucky/Tennessee All-Star game captain.
Houston Bragg joins the Eagles as a 6-4, 306-pound Taylor County High School product. A native of Campbellsville, he was All-Class 3A District 5, he earned a captains award, was the offensive and defensvile line MVP and a two-time Pepsi player
of the week as a senior. Paducah, Ky. product
Jordan Ludovissie is a 6-2, 290-pound Lone Oak High School graduate who was the 2007 and 2009 Class 4A state runner up-football. He was also a four-year letterwinner in basketball and a two-year letterwinner in track.
Lawrence Massey was a 6-3, 270-pound two-year letterman, and a three-star academic athlete at Shiloh High School in Snellville, Ga.
Those linemen will protect three incoming quarterbacks and open holes for six new running backs.
Nick Biada is one of the three signal callers. A 6-1, 195-pound native of Brook Park, Ohio, Biada has been All-SWC honorable mention twice. He was 62-145 for 968 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior at Midpark High School.
Kyle Cook joins the Eagles after a successful career at Little Miami High School in Maineville, Ohio. The 6-3, 190-pound Cook was a three-year member of the FAVC First Team and a two-year All Southwest Ohio First Team member. He also was named All-City.
Boone Goldsmith is a 6-4, 192-pound Danville, Ky. native. He was All-State and All-Area, leading Boyle County High School to the Kentucky State championship. He scored 14 touchdowns while compiling 1544 yards passing (102.9 per game) as a senior.
Brandon Bornhauser is one of six running backs in this year’s class. Hailing from Cincinnati’s Anderson High School, the 6-1, 190-pound Bornhauser was All-FAVC, Second Team SWOFCA and All-District honorable mention in leading Anderson to a 12-1 record as senior.
Rees MacShara joins the Eagles as a highly touted high school running back. MacShara played at Boyle County with Goldsmith, earning the Kentucky 4A Player of the Year, the Kentucky Advocate Male Athlete of the Year and the Lex18 Player of the Year. He led Kentucky in rushing and scoring, earning Courier-Journal First Team All-State and he was the 2009 Kentucky 4A state championship MVP. The 5-10, 180-pound Danville, Ky. native carried the ball 238 times this season, for 2,878 yards and 42 touchdowns. Lawrence Central High School’s
Isaiah Roundtree earned All-Indiana Conference honorable mention, rushing 123 times for 953 yards and 16 touchdowns his senior season. A 5-11, 180-pound running back from Indianapolis, he returned five kickoffs for touchdowns in his high school career.
Kyle Stephenson was a First Team All-Ohio Capital Conference team member, and All-Central District honoree who also played quarterback. From Westerville Central High School in Westerville, Ohio, the 6-0, 185-pound Stephenson passed for 1076 yards and rushed for 925 and combined for 17 touchdowns.
Troy Turner, Jr. joins the Eagles from Clarksville, Tenn., where he played at Fort Campbell High School. At 5-10, 195 pounds, Turner was All-Western Kentucky Conference for four years,(2006-2009), All Kentucky New Era in 2007 and 2009, All Area all four years and the 2A Kentucky State Champion in 2009. The Louisville Courier-Journal named him All-State honorable mention after he rushed for 5316 yards and 71 touchdowns in his career. The 5-11, 185-pound
Rayshawn Walton from Cincinnati’s Withrow High School rounds out the crop of offensive backs. Named Academic All-Conference, Walton is a four-year Honor Roll member, and was All-League in football and track. He was a Coaches’ Award recipient in 2009 after posting 950 all purpose yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior.
Three wide receivers will join the talented offensive class of 2010.
Kevin Edwards is a 5-10, 173-pound Virginia Beach, Va. native who played at Atlantic Shores Christian School. He was named VISSA 2009 Division II Football All-State, he was a member of the All-Virginia prep team and was tabbed Top 25 Hampton Roads., earning a spot of distinction in a strong football recruiting base.
Steven Lester played at Wheeling High School in Marietta, Ga. The 5-9, 170-pound Lester was the team MVP and he earned the touchdown club Player of the Week award three times. In 2008 he competed in the track team’s 4x400 national championship relay.
DL Stephens from Shiloh High School in Snellville, Ga. is the final of the three new wide receivers. A two-year letterman and a four-star athlete, the 6-1, 185-pound Stephens had 26 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns during his senior season.
The 2010 class also includes two specials teamers,
Brett Cleveland, a punter and
Ryan Ullrich, a kicker. A 6-0, 185-pound graduate of Summerville High School in Summerville, S.C., Cleveland was the D1-AAAA All-State punter, earning First Team All-District honors. Ullrich was All-Indiana Conference, All-Region, All-County, and AP All-State Honorable Mention. Hailing from Indianapolis, he was also a team captain at Lawrence Central High School.
Morehead State opens the 2010 season on the road at former national champion James Madison at 6 p.m. on Sept. 4. The Eagles open their home slate the following week at Jayne Stadium versus St. Francis at 1 p.m.
