MOREHEAD, Ky. - Chase Kindred, a multi-sport athlete from Winchester, Ky., will be joining the Morehead State men's tennis roster this fall. MSU coach Kevin Fulton announced that Kindred has completed the necessary paperwork and has been admitted to the university.
Kindred, a George Rogers Clark High School product, will be a true freshman in 2010-11.
"Getting a kid like Chase is a coaches dream. He works hard, he is super athletic, and I feel his best tennis is ahead of him. I feel like we stole him as he was being recruited to play basketball at several schools," said Fulton. "He has always committed himself to basketball so now that he will only be playing tennis you will see his game jump four levels quickly."
Kindred is elated about playing tennis on the collegiate level.
"I'm really excited to join the Eagles this year. I'm glad I can be a part of such a great program and am looking forward to a great first season," he said.
While basketball has been Kindred's primary sport, he has quietly made a name for himself as a netter as well. He advanced to the Kentucky state tennis tournament as a junior and a senior this past season.
He was the starting guard on GRCHS's basketball team that finished 26-7 overall in 2009-10 and was runner-up in the highly competitive 10th region.
