MOREHEAD, Ky. -
A battle for supremacy in the Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball race is set to unfold Thursday night at Johnson Arena when the Morehead State Eagles host the unbeaten and upstart Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles enter the game at 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the OVC. They have league wins over Jackosnville State, Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri to their credit so far. Tech is led by All-OVC player Taccarra Hayes with 15.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She also has 53 assists. Brittany Darling scores 8.6 points, grabs 6.1 rebounds, and has won four straight OVC Newcomer of the Week honors.

Thursday’s game will be special for new MSU coach Tom Hodges as it will be the first time he’ll face his alma mater as a head coach.

The Eagles are coming off an 82-79 win over Longwood Sunday. They would like to improve upon their second half performance though if they plan to win Thursday. MSU had a 21-point lead slip all the way down to just one before holding on for the three-point win over the Lancers.

Ashar Harris leads the OVC in rebounding and is this week’s OVC Player of the Week, her third OVC weekly award in 2010-11.

After the Tech contest, MSU hosts Jacksonville State Saturday at 5:15 p.m. EST.
