MOREHEAD, Ky. --
The Morehead State women’s basketball team will look to begin Ohio Valley Conference play 2-0 when the Austin Peay Lady Govs visit Johnson Arena on Saturday.

Game time is set for 2:45 p.m. following the MSU-APSU men’s game. The game can be heard live on the Eagle Sports Network, and fans can watch live video on OVCSports.tv.

The Eagles won their OVC opener on Wednesday at Southeast Missouri, 61-57. Senior guard Courtney Lumpkin scored a career-high 30 points, including drilling five three-pointers and tallying 23 points in the second half. It marked the fourth straight season the Eagles have won their conference opener.

Austin Peay enters the game 3-11 overall and 0-1 in the league. After winning their first two games, the Lady Govs have lost 11 of their last 12, including a 95-81 setback at Tennessee State on Thursday.

Whitney Hanley scores 16.8 points per game, which leads APSU and ranks fourth in the OVC. Leslie Martinez leads a balanced rebounding output with 5.6 per game.

Saturday’s game could be a battle of ball control. The Eagles and Lady Govs both generate nearly 20 opponent mistakes per game, and both teams average better than 10 steals.

The series, which began back in 1977-78, is deadlocked at 35 games apiece. APSU has had the slight upper hand lately, leading 7-5 in games played in the last five seasons.

Morehead State has the following week off of games before returning to the road on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Tennessee Tech.
