Game Notes | Live Stats | Live Audio | Live Video

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -
While the regular season still has three weeks remaining, it’ll be a championship atmosphere Saturday night in the Eblen Center when the Morehead State women’s basketball team battles Tennessee Tech at 6:30 p.m. EST.

The Golden Eagles are first place in the OVC right now at 11-1, but MSU is right behind at 10-2, meaning an MSU Eagle win will catapult MSU into first place with five games left on the schedule. A win would also secure a tiebreaker against Tech as the Eagles handed the Golden Eagles their only OVC loss so far.

It will also be a special occasion for MSU first-year head coach Tom Hodges. His alma mater is Tennessee Tech and its where he got his start in the collegiate coaching world.

MSU is coming off an exhilarating 65-64 last-second victory at Jacksonville State Thursday. Freshman Allie Turner hit the game-winning layup with 0.7 seconds after JSU had canned what it thought might be the game-winning jumper with 4.5 ticks left. Chynna Bozeman led the Eagles with 22 points, while Ashar Harris posted her 15th double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Bozeman continues to pace the Eagle offense with 19.3 points per game, and she is getting within sights of Donna Murphy’s career MSU scoring record. Harris leads the league in rebounding and scores 14.4 points to rank in the top ten in the OVC as well.

Tennessee Tech, which lost by 25 points in Morehead in early January, is led by Taccarra Hayes’ 15.4 points and 7.7 rebounds. The sophomore went berserk Thursday with 29 points and 19 rebounds as Tech edged Eastern Kentucky 56-49. The Eagles led the OVC in scoring margin at +5.9. They also lead the league in free throw accuracy and rebounding.

Tech leads the overall series 52-19 but MSU has won six of the last nine since 2006-07.

Morehead State will be back at home next week as they host Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri. The EIU Panthers provided the opposition on Thursday, Feb. 10 with tipoff set for 5:15 p.m. It’ll be Crazy Pants Party night at Johnson Arena.
