LOUISVILLE, Ky. --
The Morehead State baseball team fell to #23 Louisville, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Cardinal right fielder Stewart Ijames' triple over the head of centerfielder Nick Duff drove in Louisville's first run in the bottom of the first inning. Ijames finished the game with two hits, two RBI and a diving grab which stole an extra-base hit from the Eagles.

MSU (1-8) freshman starter Noah Smallwood held the Louisville (5-2) offense in check until the bottom of the fifth inning. Smallwood finished the day with 4.1 innings pitched and three earned runs allowed. The Eagles allowed five runs in the fifth inning which brought the score to 6-0.

Louisville's starter, freshman Dace Kime, struck out seven Eagles over five innings in his collegiate debut. He earned his first win of the season for the Cardinals.

Morehead State got on the board in the top of the seventh inning. Outfielder Luke Bainer started the inning by smashing a double over the glove of the leaping third baseman and into the left field corner. Second baseman Travis Redmon extended his hitting streak to 10 games and drove in the Eagle's lone run on a flare down the right field line. MSU finished the game with eight base knocks in the game, surpassing the seven Cardinal hits.

The Eagles travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for this weekend's series at the University of Tennessee Tournament. In the first game of the tournament, MSU will face Indiana Friday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST.
