Women's Golf Improves To Finish Fourth, Lausier Surges To Second

MOBILE, Ala.—Morehead State women’s golf improved to finish fourth at the South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational. Senior Paige Lausier surged in Tuesday’s third round to finish second overall at the par 72, 6,051-yard Azalea City Golf Club.

The Eagles shot a 303 on Tuesday, the second-best round of the day, to move up one position and finish fourth with a 921 (311-307-303). MSU placed just five strokes out of second and seven strokes behind tournament winner Samford.

"The team played solid today and finished strong with several birdies on our last hole. I'm excited for Paige finishing second this week," MSU coach Stephanie Barker said.

Lausier checked in with a 226 (75-76-75) to leap from sixth place after the second round and finish in a tie for second, four strokes behind medalist Kristen Golightly of South Alabama.

Sophomore Marisa Kamelgarn and junior Emma Jonsson tied for 16th overall and finished second for the Eagles, each shooting a 232. Kamelgarn moved up two spots with a 79-76-77, and Jonsson shot up 14 spots, carding a 74 in the third round to finish with an 80-78-74 to improve on her 30th place finish after the second round.

Freshman Sofia Pettersson shot a 236 (82-77-77) to tie for 25th overall and freshman Amalie Munck finished with a 237 (77-79-81) to tie for 28th overall.

MSU senior Lynn Grunkemeyer, playing as an individual, tied for 45th overall with a 245 (84-80-81).
As a team, the Eagles led the 12-team field with 176 pars in the 54-hole tournament. MSU was the only OVC team at the event.

Morehead State will stay on the road next weekend, competing at the Barefoot Beach Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. starting Sunday.

"I am looking forward to next week's perforamce and feel like we are on track," Barker said.
