MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State senior Kenneth Faried was named to the Associated Press’s All-America Third Team Monday.
Generally considered to be the top “All-America” award, the AP honor is his sixth major award the Newark, N.J. native has earned this season. Faried has previously been named to U.S. Basketball Writers Association, Fox Sports, Yahoo, Lute Olson and Sports Illustrated award lists. It also marks the second straight year Faried has been honored by the AP. He was named All-America honorable mention after his junior season.
“All the way back at the beginning of the season we called him one of the 20 best players in the country and after a stellar senior year he is being honored as one of the top 15 players in all of college basketball,” MSU coach Donnie Tyndall. “He’s a great player, a great ambassador for our university, arguably the best player to ever play at Morehead State and a tremendous person. He is incredibly deserving of this award.”
He finished his career with 1,673 rebounds, just two shy of MSU career leader Steve Hamilton. Faried’s 86 career double-doubles place him just one behind only Tim Duncan in doubles-doubles in NCAA Division I history. Faried led the Ohio Valley Conference in blocks per game at 2.3 and was tied for second in the league in steals per game at 1.9. He joined other MSU All-Americans and had his jersey retired during senior day in February.
The Eagles finished the 2010-11 season by tying the school record for wins at 25 and upsetting No. 4 Louisville in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
