MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team wraps the 2011 season this weekend in a three-game set against Ohio Valley Conference opponent Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Ala.
The series opens with a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field at 2 p.m. EDT and will wrap Saturday at 2 p.m. EDT. All games this weekend will be broadcasted on
www.msueagles.com.
The Eagles are coming off a series victory against Murray State. MSU clobbered the Thoroughbreds with six long balls in the Sunday twinbill to take games one and two 9-5 and 9-7. Senior Daniel Pugh, who was recognized with five other Eagle seniors in the pregame senior day festivities, launched three home runs himself, his first three round trippers this season. In the series finale against Murray, the Thoroughbreds generated a five-run sixth frame to overwhelm the Morehead State offense and won 9-6.
Though MSU has been eliminated from postseason contention, the Gamecocks are still fighting for position in the OVC tournament and ranked third in conference play. JSU is led by several outstanding hitters and as a team are batting .306.
Jacksonville State is 8-1 against the Eagles in coach Jay Sorg’s tenure with the ballclub. The Gamecocks swept MSU last season at Allen Field.
