TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Morehead State freshman Elizabeth Tresnak started her Eagle career off with a bang, as she scored the lone goal for the Eagle soccer team in a 1-1 tie versus Indiana State on Sunday at Memorial Stadium. The match was the first and only exhibition for the Eagles.
Morehead State started off the game as the aggressors, maintaining much of the possession in the first of three 30-minute periods. The Eagles won two corner kicks to put the pressure on the Sycamores but could not find the back to the net.
After a scoreless first period, both teams broke through, as Tresnak scored the first goal of her career and the first goal of the season for the Eagles 10 minutes into the second period. A miscue by the Sycamore midfield led to a pass by junior Alex Pacitto down the right wing to Tresnak, who finished the one-on-one opportunity into the left side of the net past Indiana State senior goalkeeper Emily Lahay.
The Sycamores answered 15 minutes later as senior Jessica Rosenberg crossed the ball to junior Casey Allbright, who found the back of the net from 25 yards out on the left wing.
Indiana State carried the momentum from its second period goal into the third and final period, but the Eagle defense held firm, denying the Sycamores the go-ahead goal. Both teams pushed for the game-winning goal, with neither team able to finish.
Indiana State barely outshot the Eagles 9-8 in the match, with Morehead State recording three shots on goal to the Sycamores' four. The Eagles won the corner kick battle 4-3 and MSU goalkeepers had two saves, while ISU had three. Each team had a high number of fouls, with ISU logging 11 fouls to MSU’s eight.
Morehead State will kick-off the 2011 regular season Friday, Aug. 19 at Valparaiso University. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
