MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Soccer's
Amira Hendrick was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Goalkeeper of the Week following her season defining save and performance against Western Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 25.
"It's an honor to be recognized, and I want to thank everybody who sees my potential and talent as a freshman goalkeeper," said Hendrick. "My team has been a huge part of my success and I am beyond happy I can share this experience with them."
Hendrick recorded the second shutout of her career in just her third career start, becoming the first Morehead State Eagle to accomplish the feat since Erin Gibbs in 2022. Gibbs also recorded two shutouts in her first three starts, blanking Southern Indiana and Eastern Illinois.
On top of her shutout, she made seven saves, lifting her total to 18 in games she has started. She also became the first Morehead State Eagle to save 18 of the first 19 shots on goal that she faced when starting, since Erin Gibbs saved 23 of the first 24 shots on goal that she faced when starting in 2022.
"She thoroughly deserves this award after her heroics on Sunday," said Head Coach
Paul Cox. "She's stepped in this season so well. Stepped in like a senior, not a freshman."
In Sunday's contest, Hendrick was flagged for a yellow card in the 63rd minute for a foul just outside of the goal. Following the card, she made the first penalty kick save since
Claire Cress against Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament in 2024. Hendrick kept the game scoreless, allowing her offense to score the eventual game winning goal later in the contest.
Cox defined her penalty-kick save as a "season saving" stop, as it kept the Eagles' hopes alive to finishing in the top six of the conference standings and potentially hosting an OVC Tournament game.
Hendrick and the Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 1, taking on Southern Indiana for the final regular season game of the 2026 season.
