Football Tabs Six as Team Captains

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State football program has named six student-athletes as team captains for the 2011 season.

Senior fullback Desmond Cox, senior halfback Ronnie McDermott and junior quarterback Zach Lewis have been tabbed as the offensive captain. On defense, senior linebacker Tony Bachman and senior defensive ends Jerome Raymond and Mark Hall are the captains. Each week, along with the team captains, the coaching staff will designate one game captain.

"We normally only name four players as captains, but we just felt like all these guys deserved the honor this year," said coach Matt Ballard. "To be honest, it was extremely hard  just to narrow it down to six. That just shows that we have so many leaders on this team this year."

Cox is the leading returning rusher for the Eagles on offense, while McDermott returns for his senior year having led the Eagles in receptions in 2010. Lewis set several records as MSU's signal caller in his sophomore season and is projected to be one of the top quarterbacks in the Pioneer Football League.

Bachman led the team in total tackles in 2010 while ranking second in the PFL. Hall and Raymond combined to form one of the league's best defensive end tandems. The duo combined for 36 tackles for loss and helped the Eagles' defensive unit rank among the nation's best.
