MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State women’s basketball team will look to halt a two-game losing streak when it hosts Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech on Monday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m., and the game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network and www.MSUEagles.com.
It’s also Crazy Pants Night at Johnson Arena with fans vying for the opportunity to win Loudmouth Golf gear.
MSU (7-12/4-3 OVC) has dropped back-to-back conference contests to Tennessee State and UT Martin, but if recent trends hold up, the Eagles are good position to get back on the winning track. Despite trailing 54-19 in the all-time series with Tech, the Eagles haven’t lost to the Golden Eagles (9-13/5-3 OVC) in Morehead since Jan. 30, 2006 -- a five-game span.
Tech enters the game on a three-game winning streak with victories over Southeast Missouri, Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky in the last nine days. TTU has also won five of its last seven games overall, starting with a 68-50 triumph over MSU in Cookeville, Tenn., on Jan. 7.
Taccarra Hayes, the OVC Preseason Player of the Year, leads TTU with 17.4 points, 4.0 assists and 5.9 rebounds per game. Jala Harris tosses in 13.8 points per outing. Sytia Messer is in her third year leading TTU with a 46-37 career record.
The Eagles continue to be led by seniors Linda Dixon and Courtney Lumpkin. Dixon tops the scoring column with 14.9 per game, but Lumpkin averages 20.1 points in OVC games.
Following Monday’s matchup, the Eagles have a day off before hosting Murray State on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. It will mark the only meeting with the Racers during the regular season.
