MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State junior kicker/punter Rainer Duzan and senior fullback Desmond Cox have been named to the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team for the 2011 season.
Duzan entered the school year with a 3.84 grade point average as an accounting major at MSU. He also earned 2011 All-Pioneer League First-Team honors for both academic and athletic achievement.
Duzan, a native of Dublin, Ohio, established MSU’s career field goals record in the season opener. He finished the campaign 12-of-17 (.706) on FG attempts and 49-of-51 (.961) on extra-point tries.
Duzan led the Eagles and ranked third in the league with 85 points. He was named the PFL’s Special Teams Player of the Week three times.
Cox entered the school year with a 3.46 GPA as a sports management major at MSU. He also picked up 2011 All-PFL Second-Team honors for both academic and athletic achievement.
Cox, a native of Akron, Ohio, rushed for 956 yards and nine touchdowns in his final college season. He also amassed 323 receiving yards and took two catches to the end zone.
Cox ranked wrapped up his career with 1,783 rushing yards. He was named the PFL’s Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for a career-high 218 yards in the season finale against Butler, which included a school-record 92-yard touchdown burst.
Duzan and Cox were among 58 winners selected from a group of 92 nominees.
Football players from all FCS institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Nominees are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and each individual must have legitimate athletic credentials.
Morehead State finished the campaign 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the PFL. Half of MSU’s eight defeats came in heartbreaking fashion, by less than five points.
