Former Eagle Basketball Star David Aliu Sets Scoring Record in England

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Former Morehead State men's basketball standout David Aliu recently scored his 1,000th career point for the Mersey Tigers of the British Basketball League, setting the team career record for points.

Aliu, who played at MSU from 2000 to 2004, was a career 50 percent field goal shooter and a 78 percent free throw shooter while playing for coach Kyle Macy.

A native of Liverpool, England, Aliu broke the scoring record for his hometown professional team.

“Anything is possible. It’s another great personal achievement to break the 1,000-point mark and to do it in my home city makes it that much better," he said in an interview with the Liverpool Echo newspaper.

Following his Eagle career, Aliu played professionally in Italy, Iceland, Spain, Switzerland and Scotland before returning to Liverpool. Formerly the Everton Tigers, Mersey won the 2010-11 BBL trophy with a 25-8 record.
