Eagle Women Strive to Keep Up OVC Road Success Saturday at Tennessee Tech

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Morehead State’s women’s basketball team has seen a plethora of success in Ohio Valley Conference road games over the past three seasons, going 14-5, and on Saturday night, the Eagles will look to continue the trend as MSU faces OVC preseason favorite Tennessee Tech on the Golden Eagles’ home floor at 6:30 p.m. ET.

The game can be heard live on the Eagle Sports Network and on www.MSUEAGLES.com.

Tech may have been the odds-on pick to repeat as conference winners, but the non-conference portion of the schedule and the first two league games haven’t been kind to the Golden Eagles. They enter Saturday’s battle at 4-11 overall and 0-2 in the league after dropping games to UT Martin and SIU Edwardsville.

Preseason OVC Player of the Year Taccarra Hayes leads TTU with 16.9 points per game, but it was then little-known Brittany Darling who did the most damage against MSU in Cookeville last year. A 6-foot-5 post, Darling scored 20 points and nabbed 15 rebounds as Tech held on to sole possession of first place with an 82-70 victory on Feb. 5, 2011. This year Darling is scoring 8.4 points and collecting a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game.

The Eagles, meanwhile, are sitting in a great spot amongst the league after winning their first two games over Southeast Missouri and Austin Peay. Senior guard Courtney Lumpkin ranks third in the league in scoring among conference games at 23.5. Junior forward Ashar Harris, on the strength of a 19-point, 18-rebound double-double against Austin Peay, is up to third nationally in rebounding at 12.1 per game.

TTU has owned the series with MSU, leading 53-19, but the Eagles have won six of the last eight meetings since 2007-08.

Following the TTU game, MSU will travel to face Jacksonville State on Monday at 4 p.m. ET.
