Here are 10 notes heading into the game:
WHO SAID WE COULDN’T RUN IT?
Morehead State entered the Drake game eighth in the Pioneer Football League with just 72 rushing yards per game, but posted a season-high 236 yards on 44 rushing attempts versus the Bulldogs. Sophomore Rees Macshara led the Eagles with a career-best 132 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries.
THE GUY WHO THROWS IT
Senior Zach Lewis ranks second in the Pioneer Football League with 270 passing yards per game. He is 96-of-145 this season, with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.
... AND THE GUY WHO CATCHES IT
Senior Donte Sawyer ranks first in the Pioneer Football League this season with 6.8 catches and third with 67.2 receiving yards per contest. He owns six career games of at least 100 receiving yards.
TIME TO UPDATE THE RECORD BOOK
Zach Lewis, who has completed 766-of-1,242 attempts for 8,375 yards and 56 touchdowns in 33 games, has already set MSU’s career TD tosses record and is on pace to break others. He needs just nine completions, 166 attempts and 654 yards to pass Chris Swartz, who quarterbacked the Eagles from 1987-90.
ESTABLISHING SCHOOL STANDARDS
Donte Sawyer, who has 145 receptions for 1,800 yards and 19 touchdowns in 36 games, has already set MSU’s career TD catches record and is on pace to break others. He needs just 22 catches to pass Jerome Williams (1987-90) and 196 receiving yards to pass John High (1968-71).
CHASING THE LEAGUE MARK, TOO
Zach Lewis, who owns 766 career completions, needs just 19 to set the Pioneer Football League’s all-time mark. Josh McGregor, now a radio broadcaster for Jacksonville, tallied 784 from 2008-11.
PUTTING POINTS ON THE BOARD
Morehead State is averaging a Pioneer Football League-best 30.0 points in 2012. The Eagles are tied for first in the conference with five field goals and knotted for third with 15 touchdowns.
FLYING TO THE BALL
Morehead State has had 36 different players make a tackle in the first four games this season. Sophomore linebacker Jordan Hendrix leads the Pioneer Football League with 12.2 tackles per game, while sophomore linebacker Dillion Blackburn ranks third with 11.8.
CRACKING DOUBLE FIGURES
Five Morehead State defenders have recorded 10+ tackles in a game this season. Jordan Hendrix leads the way with three double-figure performances, while Dillion Blackburn has two and three defensive backs -- senior Kameron Scott, junior John Coleman and sophomore Zachary Senvisky -- own one each.
ALREADY IN THE RECORD BOOK
Senior kicker Rainer Duzan also owns Morehead State career records for points by a kicker (214), made field goals (35) and successful extra points (109). He is the Pioneer Football League’s active career leader in all three categories.
