MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State women’s basketball team gets back to action Monday night, hosting Ohio Valley Conference opponent Jacksonville State at 6 p.m. ET. The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network and on www.MSUEagles.com.
MSU will helping the cause to find a cure for breast cancer Monday with a Play 4Kay Initiative game. The first 100 students will receive a free pink t-shirt, and shirts will also be available for purchase for just $5. All proceeds go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Yow was the former North Carolina State head coach who lost a battle with cancer in 2009.
The Eagles (8-16/5-7 OVC) will be looking to right the ship after a 10-point loss at Eastern Kentucky Saturday. MSU has dropped five of the last six games. Despite the recent trend, MSU still boasts two of the top scoring guards in the conference.
Senior Courtney Lumpkin averages a team-high 16 points per game overall and has upped her production to 21.7 in league contests. She ranks third in the OVC in points in league games. Senior Linda Dixon, who scored a career-high 31 on the strength of eight three-pointers at EKU, averages 15.8 points per game and ranks fourth in the conference in scoring in league battles.
Jacksonville State (4-21/1-11 OVC) has lost six consecutive games and 15 of its last 16, including a 68-52 setback to MSU in Jacksonville, Ala., on Jan. 9. Briana Morrow (11.0 ppg), Destiny Lane (10.9 ppg) and Danielle Vaughn (10.8 ppg) pace JSU’s offensive effort. The Gamecocks ranks in the nation’s bottom 10 in most turnovers per game.
The Eagles lead the series 11-8 and have won three straight against JSU.
MSU faces Austin Peay on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. ET. It will mark MSU’s final road contest of the 2011-12 regular season.
