MSU and SIUE Square Off on Senior Night at Johnson Arena

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team (16-14, 9-6) wraps up its regular season on Saturday when Ohio Valley Conference opponent SIU Edwardsville (9-16, 6-9) visits Johnson Arena at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET.

The men’s game, which follows a 5:15 p.m. women’s contest between MSU and SIUE, will be webcast live on OVCSports.tv.  It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes WIVY-96.3 FM, MSPR-90.3 FM and MSUEagles.com.

Morehead State is currently tied with Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech for third in the OVC standings.  The top four teams earn a first-round bye in next week’s tournament.

Morehead State has won six of its past eight conference affairs, with victories over UT Martin, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Illinois (twice), Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay.

SIU Edwardsville has won three of its past five league tilts, with victories over Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky (twice).  The Cougars had previously dropped six in a row.

MSU owns a 60-11 record (.845) at Johnson Arena over the past five years, including a 39-5 mark (.886) in OVC home games.  The Eagles have won six of their last eight at home.

Junior Marsell Holden led four Eagles in double figures with 17 points in Thursday’s 75-39 thumping of Eastern Illinois.  It was MSU’s largest Division I victory since Jan. 14, 2010.

Morehead State is paced by senior Ty Proffitt (10.2 ppg), sophomore Drew Kelly (4.9 rpg) and senior Lamont Austin (3.1 apg, 1.4 spg).

Junior Jerome Jones led the Cougars with 22 points and 11 rebounds in Thursday’s 63-58 victory at Eastern Kentucky.  Junior Mark Yelovich (14.8), Jones (13.6) and freshman Kris Davis (11.8) average double figures for SIUE.

Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (112-84, .571) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (142-89, .615).

Lennox Forrester is in his fifth season as the head coach at SIU Edwardsville (49-91, .350) after spending five years as an assistant coach at Bradley.

Morehead State owns a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series vs. SIU Edwardsville.  The Cougars posted a 61-53 win in this year’s first meeting on Feb. 4 at the Vadalabene Center.
