MOREHEAD, Ky. -- It’s Ohio Valley Conference basketball tournament time, and the fifth-seeded Morehead State women’s basketball team gets the event underway against eighth-seeded Austin Peay Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium.
The game can be heard live on WIVY-FM 96.3 and on MSUEagles.com. Live video is available on OVCSports.com. Wednesday’s winner will move on to face fourth-seeded Murray State on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.
The Eagles (10-18) split the season series with the Lady Govs (8-21), winning in Morehead on Dec. 31 and falling in overtime in Clarksville on Feb. 18.
Morehead State earned the number five seed despite a 72-70 overtime loss to SIUE on Saturday. MSU finished the 2011-12 regular season with a 7-7 home record, marking the sixth straight above-.500 home ledger.
Austin Peay defeated Southeast Missouri 88-84 Saturday to nab the final tournament berth. The Lady Govs have won two of the last three tournament titles to advance to the NCAA Tournament. APSU has a 26-12 all-time record in tournament games. The Lady Govs are led by Whitney Hanley with 18.9 points per game.
MSU, which has a 10-20 all-time tournament record, is led by senior guards Linda Dixon and Courtney Lumpkin. The pair combine to average 31.6 points per game.
Junior forward Ashar Harris became the fifth player in school history to record at least 1,000 career rebounds when she grabbed her fourth Saturday against SIUE. She finished with 19 rebounds and ranks second in the nation among Division I players in caroms per game.
