MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State football players Zach Lewis, Donte Sawyer and Jerome Raymond have been named to the All-Commonwealth Collegiate Team.
The awards, which are presented by the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame, recognize the state’s top players from the 2011 season. Team members will be honored on June 15 in Louisville.
Lewis, a junior quarterback from Manchester, Ky., set Morehead State’s single-season records for completions (324), attempts (513) and passing yards (3,585).
Lewis led the conference in total offense (313.5 ypg) and ranked second in touchdown passes (28). He also tallied a league-best eight games of 300-plus yards through the air.
Sawyer, a junior wide receiver from Acworth, Ga., set Morehead State’s single-season (12) and career (16) records for TD catches. He finished the 2011 campaign with 60 receptions for 904 yards.
Sawyer ranked third in the Pioneer Football League in receiving yards per game (82.2) and tied for fourth in points per game (6.5). He also posted five contests of 100-plus receiving yards.
Raymond, a senior defensive end from Lawrenceville, Ga., closed out his career with 27 sacks and 41 tackles for loss to rank among Morehead State’s all-time best defenders.
Raymond tied for fourth among league defenders in sacks (11.5) and ranked eighth in tackles for loss (11.5). He also forced a pair of fumbles and blocked a kick.
Morehead State finished the campaign 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the PFL. Half of MSU’s eight defeats came in heartbreaking fashion, by less than five points.
