Soccer Ready for OVC Opener

MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Morehead State soccer team is ready for what it's been preparing itself for since August, the start of the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference season. The Eagles travel to in-state rival Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. 

The Eagles enter the contest 0-7-1, while the Colonels sit at 4-4-1.

MATCH NOTES

• The Eagles fell 2-0 at Wright State to go 0-1 last week. Sophomore forward Elizabeth McSparin led MSU with two shots in the contest, while sophomore defender Macy Cobb had a shot on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd racked up six saves for the Eagles.

• MSU holds the edge over its opponents in shot percentage this season. The Eagles post a .530 SOG percentage while holding their opponents to .500.

• Morehead State has also earned 35 corner kicks, which is six more than its opponents.

• Five different Eagles have scored in 2012. Cobb leads MSU with a pair, while sophomore Caity Fox and freshmen Kimberly Golden, Kelsey Gomez and Samantha Matherly have one apiece.

• MSU’s three assists on six goals have been credited to three different Eagles. Sophomore Holly Tilley and Kimberly Borys and freshman Macy Kootz each have one.

• In 470 minutes played for the Eagles, Floyd has 21 saves and posts a 1.72 goals against average.

• Eagles Head Coach Warren Lipka was inducted into the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame on Sept. 13. He joined 138 others who have been previously selected for the prestigious honor.

• Up next, the Eagles will travel to Nashville, Tenn., on Sept. 30 to face OVC newcomer Belmont. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m. ET.
