RICHMOND, Ky –
Eastern Kentucky used 21 points and 19 rebounds from senior Jade Barber to hand the Morehead State women’s basketball team a 62-52 setback Saturday at McBrayer Arena,  its second loss in Ohio Valley Conference play this season.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 5-12 overall, and 1-2 in the conference, while the Lady Colonels improved to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in league contests.

Junior Terrice Robinson led the Eagles with 30 points on an 11-of-23 shooting night. The total was her second 30+ scoring output this season and her fourth 20+ point game. She is averaging 23.7 points in the first three OVC games.

Sophomore Casey Ryans was also in double figures with 11 points, and had a team-high 10 boards, while sophomore Almesha Jones dished out a career-high eight assists.

Brittany Coles tossed in 16 points for EKU, while Raechele Gray dished off six assists.

EKU outshot MSU 38 percent (21-of-56) to 33 percent (19-of-57), however the Eagles had the edge from beyond the arc shooting 36 percent (9-of-25) to the Lady Colonels’ 32 percent (7-of-22). EKU entered the game as the OVC’s leading three-point defensive team.

A first half marked by five lead changes saw EKU go into the locker room with a 33-26 advantage. The Lady Colonels used 48 percent (13-of-27) shooting and eight blocks to hold the Eagles to just 32 percent (10-of-31) from the field.

EKU jumped out on 10-4 run before the first media timeout in the second half and built its largest lead at 13. The hosts kept their advantage to double figures until the 10:04 mark off a three from Robinson. MSU kept it within 10 for the reminder of the contest and closed the gap to as little as five after a three pointer with 3:53 to play from sophomore Whitney Kyle.

The hosts hit eight free throws in the final 2:12 to thwart the Eagles’ comeback bid.

The Eagles travel to Austin Peay on Monday night for an 8 p.m. matchup with the Lady Govs. Live stats, audio and video links are available on MSUEagles.com.
