Eagles Back at Home for PFL Contest vs. San Diego

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State football team returns to Jayne Stadium on Saturday for a 1 p.m. ET contest against San Diego.  MSU's final three regular-season contests are at home this season.

The Eagles are 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the Pioneer Football League after last Saturday's 56-14 loss at Drake.  The Toreros are 6-3 on the year and 5-1 in conference action after last Saturday's 58-14 victory at Valparaiso.

San Diego has won all eight previous meetings against Morehead State in a series that began in 2005.  The Toreros used a 24-14 advantage in the second half to post a 41-28 victory last year in San Diego.

Tickets are just $10 for adults and $3 for children 12-and-under.  MSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.  All seating is general admission.  Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.  Parking is just $5 per vehicle.

Saturday will also be Military Appreciation Day at Jayne Stadium.  Current and past members of the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, along with their family members, will be admitted for only $1 per person.

Ten notes heading into the contest:

GOING .500 IN THE LEAGUE
Morehead State is off to a 3-3 start in Pioneer Football League action this year.  The Eagles have not finished above .500 in the PFL since a 5-2 mark in 2007.  MSU went 4-4 in 2008 and 2010.

THE HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
The Eagles are ready to finish the season with three straight home games.  MSU owns a 10-10 (.500) record at Jayne Stadium over the past four seasons, compared to a 5-17 (.227) mark on the road.

A CHALLENGING FINISH
Morehead State's four November opponents are a combined 22-15 (.595) this season.  Drake, San Diego and Butler have also combined for a 14-4 (.778) Pioneer Football League record.

ALL STREAKS EVENTUALLY END
Morehead State won three consecutive Pioneer Football League games from Sept. 28 to Oct. 19.  The Eagles had not previously won three straight conference affairs since 2007.

YOUNG GUYS IN A KEY POSITION
Two freshmen, Austin Gahafer and Logan Johnson, have attempted 384 of Morehead State's 387 passes in 2013.  Gahafer, who has made seven starts, is 188-of-303 for 1,812 yards.  He has tallied 11 touchdowns, with eight interceptions.

THE IMPORTANT MEN UP FRONT
Morehead State's offensive line has only allowed 10 sacks in nine contests this season (1.11 average).  The Eagles have only yielded four sacks in the past five games (0.80 average).

CONVERTING IN THE RED ZONE
The Eagles rank third in the Pioneer Football League with 90 percent success in the red zone.  Morehead State is 27-of-30 in those situations, with 24 touchdowns and three field goals.

A BIG PERFORMANCE AT DRAKE
Senior defensive back Steven Lester, playing in his 37th game at Morehead State, recorded a career-best 12 tackles last Saturday at Drake.  He was the only player from either squad to notch double-figure stops in the contest.

HIS FIRST CAREER INTERCEPTION
Freshman defensive back Brandon Louder registered his first career interception last Saturday at Drake.  His pick came on Drake's first series and led to Morehead State's two-play, 34-yard touchdown drive, which made it 7-0.

BEST GROUP IN THE LEAGUE
Morehead State leads the Pioneer Football League with 22.9 yards per kick return.  Junior Brandon Bornhauser is first in the circuit with an average of 27.4, while sophomore Justin Cornwall is fourth with an average of 22.3.
