NASHVILLE --
With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Belmont scored four runs to pull ahead of the Morehead State baseball team for its second win of the series, 7-4, Friday at E.S. Rose Park.

The Bruins (19-6) improved to 7-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play, while the Eagles (9-17) fall to 4-7 in league play.

“We’ve got to get better at bats and capitalize on scoring chances at the plate,” Head Coach Mike McGuire said. “We’ve been striking out way too much, and that has got to change.”

Belmont scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the second with a two-out RBI single from sophomore catcher Alec Diamond. It tacked on another in the third, this time with an RBI single to right field from senior designated hitter Josh Davis.

In the fifth, the Eagles plated their first run of the series when freshman third baseman Alan Mocahbee drove in sophomore center fielder Duran Elmore on an RBI single up the middle. MSU tied up the game, 2-2, on the next at-bat as senior shortstop Chase Greenwell plated senior left fielder Taylor Pickens with a sacrifice fly. The Bruins retook the lead, 3-2, in the bottom half of the inning via a sacrifice fly to left field.

MSU tied the game again in the seventh as sophomore catcher Chris Robinson drove in Mocahbee with an infield single. But BU blew the game open in the bottom half of the inning, plating its four runs on four hits. The Eagles tacked on another tally in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough to rally from the four-run deficit.

Robinson was the sole Eagle to notch multiple hits in the contest, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Sophomore left-hander Noah Smallwood (0-2) took the loss, allowing 10 hits and four runs in six innings of work. BU senior righty Jessie Snodgrass (4-1) picked up the win in relief.

The Eagles will look to avoid the series sweep on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. Links to live stats and audio will be available on MSUEagles.com.
