MOREHEAD, Ky. --
The Morehead State baseball team managed seven hits, but stranded 11 runners in a 4-1 loss to Campbellsville Wednesday afternoon at Allen Field.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 9-19 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 23-8 on the year.

“The bottom line is that we didn’t hit,” Head Coach Mike McGuire said. “When guys at the top of the order can’t get it going at the plate, we struggle to bring runs in.”

CU junior left-hander Tylar Schmunk (3-2) picked up the win, allowing only three hits and no runs in seven innings. Junior righty Allen Hewey was credited with his fifth save of the season.

MSU freshman right-hander Tyler Keele (2-3) was charged with the loss, despite only giving up four hits and one earned run in his five innings. Freshman righty Matt Anderson allowed only one hit in his two innings out of the Eagle bullpen.

Campbellsville scored the first two runs of the contest, driving in a run in both the second and seventh with a pair of sacrifice flies.

Morehead State cut the Tiger lead in half, 2-1, in the bottom of the eighth when junior designated hitter Bobby Burns forced in a run with an RBI walk.

CU tacked on the final two runs of the contest in the top of the ninth with a two-run home run from senior first baseman Brandon Johnson.

Freshman third baseman Alan Mocahbee was the sole Eagle to record multiple hits on the afternoon, going 2-for-5 with a pair of singles.

The Eagles return to Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend when they host in-state rival Eastern Kentucky for a three-game series. The series gets underway on Friday with a 6 p.m. ET start time, with 1 p.m. start times on Saturday and Sunday. Weather permitting, all three games will have a live video stream on the OVC Digital Network.

“It’s an important weekend for us in the conference,” McGuire said. “We’ve got to find a way to put this one behind us and get some wins this weekend.”
