Former Head Football Coach Tom Lichtenberg Passes Away

TOM LICHTENBERG OBITUARY

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Former Morehead State Head Football Coach Tom Lichtenberg passed away over the weekend after a battle with cancer.  He was 72 years old.

Morehead State compiled a 9-11-1 record during Lichtenberg’s two years as head coach (1979-80). He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Eagles (1972-73).

Lichtenberg’s coaching career included stops at nine different Division I programs -- MSU, Iowa State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Northern Iowa, Maine, Ohio, Bowling Green and Drake.

Lichtenberg served as head coach at Maine in 1989, when the Black Bears finished 9-3.  He then served as head coach at Ohio from 1990-94, when the Bobcats posted a mark of 26-59-3.

The funeral for Lichtenberg was held on Thursday, May 30.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to:
