Charlotte Provides the Opposition for Football Finale

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State football team will travel to Charlotte Saturday for its 2014 season finale. Game time at Richardson Stadium is at Noon ET.

The Eagles (4-7) will look to make it two in a row to end the campaign after a 41-18 victory over Stetson in the home finale last weekend. Charlotte (4-6) is playing its last game as a Football Championship Subdivision independent member. In 2015, the 49ers will be members of the FBS Conference USA and will be bowl eligible in 2016.

The game will mark the final contest for nine MSU seniors.

Dan Manley (play-by-play) and Michael Gustin (analyst) will call all the action on the newly-expanded Eagle Sports Network and MSUEagles.com.  The Larry Fannin Countdown to Kickoff Show begins 30 minutes prior to kickoff, and the post-game show includes comments from Head Coach Rob Tenyer. Radio affiliates include WIVY-96.3 FM (Morehead), WMST-1150 AM & 106.9 FM (Mt. Sterling), WLGC-1520 AM (Ashland), WKYH-600 AM (Paintsville) and WCBJ-103.7 FM (Campton). Game notes heading into the contest:

INSIDE THE CHARLOTTE SERIES
Morehead State and Charlotte have only met once, and that came in Morehead last season. In Charlotte's first year as a intercollegiate team, the 49ers defeated MSU 61-17.

CROWD SUPPORT
Morehead State led the Pioneer Football League in home attendance. MSU's five games at Jayne Stadium drew an average of 5,748 fans.

NEVER QUIT
Morehead State has trailed in all four of its wins this year. The Eagles fell behind at Davidson 18-7 in the first half before rallying for a 40-32 victory. MSU erased a 17-point deficit to edge Valparaiso 48-47.

HOME COOKING
Morehead State finished 3-2 in its five home games this year. That marked the second time in the last three years the Eagles concluded their home schedule with a winning mark.

PROTECTING THE QB
Heading into the final weekend, Morehead State ranks second among the 11 PFL teams in fewest sacks allowed. The Eagle offensive line has given up just 13 sacks.

SENIOR SALUTE
Morehead State has nine seniors who are playing in their final game. The senior class includes offensive players Rees Macshara, Brandon Bornhauser, Lawrence Massey, Cyrus Strahm and Joshua Brunner. Defensive seniors include Morris Henry, Mike Jackson and Justin Cox. Luke Boyd is the lone senior specialist.

AIR IT OUT
Morehead State leads the PFL in pass attempts (488) and completions (309). The Eagles average 288 passing yards per game to rank second in the conference.

700-CLUB
Morehead State's 706 total yards at Butler were the fifth-highest single-game total in the Football Championship Subdivision this season. It marked MSU's highest output against a Division I team since 1997 and was just 47 yards shy of the program record of 753 set against Kentucky Christian in 2011.

MILESTONE MARK
Sophomore quarterback Austin Gahafer has thrown for 5,134 yards (233 per game) and 34 touchdowns in 22 career games. He has recorded at least 200 yards passing 13 times and eclipsed 300 yards five times.

MAC ON THE ATTACK
Rees Macshara rushed for 126 yards against Stetson, his second- best effort this season and his third 100+ yard performance in 2014. He has 10 career 100-yard games and has rushed for 2,299 yards in his four seasons.

EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND
Sophomore slot receiver Jake Raymond has nearly matched his total from last year when he led the team with 644 receiving yards. Raymond again leads the team with 640 yards this year and has caught five touchdowns.

THE KELLER INSTINCT
Junior linebacker Luke Keller leads Morehead State with 85 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and six sacks. He has also blocked a kick and forced two fumbles.

A BIG CHEER FOR GRIER
Junior cornerback Justin Grier was named this week's PFL Defensive Player of the Week by the league office and College Sports Madness. He recorded two interceptions, including one in the end zone to thwart a go-ahead touchdown, against Stetson. Grier ranks third on the team with 55 total tackles.

PICKIN PARLOR
The defense has recorded an interception in all but two games this season.

BE LIKE MIKE
Senior safety Mike Jackson collected his third interception of the season in the Stetson contest, picking off a pass in the end zone. Two of his three takeaways this year have come in the end zone. He has eight career interceptions.

GOOD LUKE CHARM
Luke Boyd has nailed 39-of-41 point-after tries this year. His PAT percentage ranks third in the PFL. He also has seven field goals this year and is 16-of-22 in his career.

PAT THE PUNTER
Sophomore Pat DiSalvio has averaged 37.9 yards on 63 punts this year. He has landed 10 inside the 20-yard line and has three bombs of 50+ yards, including a career-best 68-yard blast versus Jacksonville.

RETURN TO SENDER
Morehead State ranks second in the PFL in punt return average (12.9). Junior slot receiver Justin Cornwall has returned every punt for the Eagles this season.

RUNNING BACK KICKS
Morehead State ranks fourth in the PFL in kickoff returns, running back 54 boots for a 19.5 average. Brandon Bornhauser scored a touchdown on a kickoff return against Pikeville (Ky.).
