MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team begins its 2014 campaign Saturday at the Wofford/USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Eagles will open the season on Saturday at Noon ET, as they face off against Atlantic 10 conference member George Mason at Wofford's Russell C. King Field. On Sunday, they start the day with a 10:30 a.m. matchup with Ball State at Wofford, before a 3 p.m. rematch with George Mason at USC Upstate's Harley Park. MSU closes out the invitational on Monday with a 5 p.m. first pitch against host school Wofford.

A few notes heading into the weekend:
• The Eagles open the season at the Wofford/USC Upstate Invitational following a 16-40 overall record during the 2013 campaign.
• The 2014 roster is made up of 21 newcomers to the program, with only 14 returning players.
• Of the 21 new additions, eight come from high school programs while 13 come from the junior college ranks.
• This will mark the second season under Head Coach
Mike McGuire.
• Junior utility player
Kane Sweeney was selected to the 2014 Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team.
•
Sweeney's .376 batting average in 2013 was good for second in the OVC.
• Sophomore third baseman
Alan Mocahbee was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American following the 2013 season.
• The Eagles were picked to finish ninth in the OVC after finishing last season with a 10-20 conference record.
