Baseball Heads to the Heart of Dixie for Two Games

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team heads to the state of Alabama for a pair of non-conference contests at Alabama A&M this week. The Eagles and Bulldogs are set to play single games Tuesday and Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET.

Morehead State (8-10) went 1-2 against preseason Ohio Valley Conference favorite Tennessee Tech over the weekend. The Bulldogs (7-14) lost two of three at home versus Alabama State last weekend.

Series Stuff
Morehead State is 1-0 lifetime against Alabama A&M. The Eagles opened the 2013 season with an 11-0 triumph over the Bulldogs in Huntsville, Ala.

Going on the Offensive
Morehead State's hitters rank fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in average and third in hits. The Eagles are batting at a .287 clip with five everyday starters above the .300 mark.

Rawe Talent
Brandon Rawe ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a .459 batting average. He enters the week with a team-high 14-game hitting streak. During the streak, he has batted .535 (30-for-56).

Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood
Junior catcher Chris Robinson has hits in seven of his last eight games with five multi-hit games in that span. He ranks second on the team with 15 RBI. His RBI single pushed across the winning run in game of a doubleheader versus Tennessee Tech Saturday.

Movin' On Up
Senior third baseman Jeff Birkofer entered the Tennessee Tech series with a .286 batting average but went 5-for-8 in the doubleheader Saturday and raised his average 65 points to .351. He now ranks second on the team in batting average.

Craig's List
For the second straight weekend, sophomore pitcher Craig Pearcy claimed a victory by tossing five innings. Last Monday at Murray State he struck out seven in five frames, and MSU prevailed 11-10 in 12 innings. Against Tennessee Tech Saturday, Pearcy fanned eight TTU batters and allowed just three runs in five innings as the Eagles won 9-8 in 10 innings. He leads the staff with a 2.29 ERA.

Clutch When it Counts
Freshman Jimmy Wright, who has manned the catcher role five times this year and has been MSU's designated hitter four times, has just seven hits in 35 at-bats, but he has produced nine RBI. Wright has three multi-RBI games.

The Wright Stuff
Freshman pitcher Cable Wright, who hails from nearby Owingsville, Ky., leads the pitching staff with eight appearances out of the bullpen. He has a 5.68 ERA in 6.1 innings.
