Baseball Entertains APSU With Exciting Promotions Scheduled

Junior Second Baseman Tyler Bigler
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team is set to host a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series with Austin Peay this weekend. MSU (23-21/11-10 OVC) will look to continue to hold on to one of the six spots for the OVC Tournament.

APSU (18-28/10-11 OVC) has won nine straight against MSU. The Govs have won the OVC Tournament the last three years.

Friday is Youth Baseball Night and the Bluau Luau. All youth baseball players are encouraged to wear their uniforms and receive free admission. The Bluau Luau promotion, which had been scheduled for the NKU game that was canceled Wednesday, will now take place Friday. All student organizations and Greek organizations are encouraged to attend as a unit. The first 100 students will receive blue leis and rally towels. The group with the most attendees will receive free ice cream.

It is also Cracker Barrel Employee and Family Appreciation Weekend. All Morehead Cracker Barrel employees will be admitted free to any of the three games, and family members can receive $1 tickets. Tickets for the general public are $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 2-12. Parking is free.

Notes heading into the series:

Rawe Power

Junior right fielder Brandon Rawe leads the Ohio Valley Conference in batting average, hits, and doubles. He ranks in the top 30 in the nation in Division I in all three categories as well. Rawe ranks second nationally in hits (79), fifth in average (.414) and 26th in doubles (16). He also ranks seventh nationally in total bases (116). Rawe needs only eight more hits to tie the MSU single-season hit record (87) established by Andrew Deeds in 2012.

Hit Parade
The Eagles rank ninth in the country in hits this season. MSU has 479 hits this season. The school record is 630, set in 2002.

Craig's List
Sophomore pitcher Craig Pearcy leads the team and is tied for second in the conference with eight saves. He also ranks ninth in the conference in opponent batting average. Foes are hitting just .241 off the Louisville, Ky. native.

Triple Threat
Junior shortstop Robby Spencer, who was recently featured in his hometown newspaper, the El Paso (Texas) Times, tied the Ohio Valley Conference record for triples in a game when he legged out two three-baggers at Ohio on April 22. Spencer has five triples this season and need just two more to tie Andrew Deeds' single-season school record.

On a Roll
Robby Spencer enters the week with an eight-game hitting streak, and he hit .410 (16-for-39) in that span. He has seven multi-hit games in that span as well, including six straight. Overall, Spencer ranks second on the team with 19 multi-hit games.

Not Playing Like a Freshman Anymore
Freshman pitcher Luke Humphreys, who starts game one of MSU's conference series, has only allowed four earned runs in his last four OVC starts. He has 29 strikeouts in that stretch as well.

Giant Killers
Morehead State owns two wins over nationally-ranked teams. MSU knocked off No. 12 Kentucky 6-4 on April 8 in Lexington and then handed No. 23 Indiana an 8-7 setback on April 13. The last win over a nationally-ranked opponent prior to that was in 2007. The effort earned the Eagles an Honorable Mention Team of the Week nod by CollegeBaseball Insider.com.

Series Stuff
Austin Peay leads the series with Morehead State 52-27, and the Govs have won 18 of the last 20 dating back to 2005. The Eagles have dropped nine straight to APSU in the last three seasons, and the teams had all three games canceled in 2010. MSU is 6-28 versus Austin Peay since 2001. The last MSU win was 3-1 in Morehead on April 11, 2009.
