Parks' School-Record Highlights Track at OVC Championships

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. –
Sophomore Erica Parks set the school 3,000-meter steeplechase record, while two men's runners earned medals as Morehead State's track and field teams wrapped up action at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Saturday.
 
Parks finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event and shattered former teammate Anya Martinez's school record by eight seconds. Parks traversed the track and its obstacles in 10:56.93. She bested her previous personal-best by 37 seconds.
 
Junior Desmond Bell nearly repeated as conference champion in the 800-meter run, finishing second. But, he did establish a personal-record at 1:50.66.
 
Sophomore Jesse Moreno earned the bronze medal in the 10,000-meter run. MSU's current school-record holder clocked a time of 30:46.62. Senior Chase Ratliff also garnered points for the men's squad, finishing seventh in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:18.80.
 
Freshman Hannah Bailey joined Parks in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and she crushed her previous personal-best by 18 seconds. Bailey clocked an 11:07.64 to finish in fifth place.
 
Freshmen Skyler Green and Haley Mullins also collected new personal-records in the 10,000-meter event. Green ran the race in 38:04.67, while Mullins came across the finish line in 38:09.64.
 
Sophomore Jasmyn Andrews re-wrote one of her personal-bests as well, finishing the 1,500-meter run in 4:47.40.
 
MSU has two meets remaining for athletes to qualify for the NCAA East Region Championships, scheduled for May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla. The Eagles are set to send competitors to the Eastern Illinois Last Chance Meet (May 10) and the Louisville Twilight (May 16).
