Women's Hoops Looks to Keep Up Winning Ways at APSU

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Following a five-point victory over Eastern Illinois Saturday, the Morehead State women's basketball team will be back on the road for a Monday night contest at Austin Peay. Tip off at Dave Aaron Arena is at 7 p.m. ET.

Morehead State (7-11, 3-2 OVC) got a 26-point outburst from senior guard Almesha Jones Saturday. Jones leads the conference in assists and will battle with Austin Peay (6-12, 3-2 OVC) point guard Tiasha Gray, who ranks second in the league in scoring and assists.

Game notes heading into the contest:

The Series
• Austin Peay won last year's matchup to take a 38-37 series lead.
Seven of the last eight games between APSU and MSU have been decided by 10 points or less.

Paint Party
Unlike in the previous several seasons, Morehead State has made a living scoring inside the paint this year. MSU averages 35.1 points in the paint per outing.
MSU averaged 22.9 in the paint last year and only 20.9 in 2012-13.

Keeping Up With the Joneses
• Almesha Jones is the 22nd member of Morehead State's 1,000-point club. She now has 1,203 career points and is ranked 17th in career points at MSU.
Jones ranks third in the nation in total assists (146) and is third in assists per game (8.1). She has five double-digit assist games.
Jones is also ranked 10th in games played at MSU with 105.
Jones needs just 11 more assists to set the school career record. The current mark is 499 by Irene Moore.

Fabulous Freshman
Freshman forward Eriel McKee has scored in double figures in 14 of the 15 collegiate games she's appeared in.
McKee leads all OVC freshmen in rebounding, pulling down 8.6 per game. She has five double-doubles.
McKee pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds Thursday against SIU Edwardsville. She tied her career-high with eight field goals.

Four in Double Figures
• Almesha Jones, sophomore forward Shay Steele, McKee and senior guard Maiki Viela all average in double figures in scoring.
That quartet combines for 54 of MSU's 69 points per game (77 percent).

Steele The One
• Shay Steele leads the OVC in blocked shots (41). She is now eighth in career blocks (68) at Morehead State.
Steele has four 20-point games this year.
In the last seven games, she averaged 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds with a pair of double-doubles.

Flyin Hawaiian
Hawaiian native and senior Maiki Viela has nine double-figure scoring games this season. She also leads the MSU starters with an .811 free-throw percentage.

Like Father, Like Daughter
Head Coach Greg Todd has the privilege of coaching his oldest daughter Brooke, a freshman, this year. The pair is one of three parent-child duos in Division I this year, with the others being Duquesne and Mississippi State.
