MOREHEAD, Ky.—Katelyn Byrd, a 5-9 guard from Parkersburg, W. Va., has signed a National Letter of Intent with Morehead State women's basketball and will be a freshman during the 2016-17 season.

"Katelyn is a very versatile player and will add an advanced skill-set to our team next season," said Head Coach Greg Todd. "We appreciate the effort she puts into the classroom as she comes to Morehead State, she is not just a skilled basketball player, but a dedicated student-athlete."

Playing at Parkersburg South High School, under Head Coach Scott Stephens, Byrd averaged more than eight points a game in her first three seasons, including 10 points per game her junior year. She was a part of a state championship team her freshman year, and state runner-up her junior season.

Byrd has been named Ohio Valley Athletic Conference All-Academic Student-Athlete three times, accumulating a 4.375 GPA. She is currently ranked in the top 25 in career scoring at Parkersburg South High School, and was announced as All-State Honorable Mention after her junior season.

Byrd is the daughter of Quentin Watkins and Patricia Byrd. Her mother Patricia played volleyball, track and field, and softball in high school, while her father Quentin played college football at Appalachian State.
