CINCINNATI -- Alan Joseph, who is in his first school year as Morehead State's head rifle coach, was recently inducted into the Xavier Athletic Hall of Fame. He is part of a five-person class for 2014-15 and one of 118 individuals to earn the university's highest athletics honor.
Joseph competed collegiately at Xavier from 1976-80. He served as XU's head rifle coach from the program's inception in 1982 until it was discontinued in 2005. As a coach, Joseph led the Musketeers to 12 NCAA Finals appearances and national runner-up finishes in 2000 and 2003.
Eighteen of Joseph's student-athletes collected a total of 53 All-America honors. Two of his student-athletes, Jason Parker and Thrine Kane, competed in the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia. Parker also went on to compete in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
Joseph was named Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2003. He earned National Rifle Association Coach of the Year honors in 1991 and 2001.
Joseph guided the Musketeers to top-10 finishes in their last 14 seasons as a varsity sport. He continued to lead the program as a club until its finish in 2008.
Joseph earned a bachelor's degree from Xavier in 1980 and master's degree from XU in 1984. He was announced as Morehead State's head coach on July 21.
