Women's Basketball Hosts Belmont for Mid-Week OVC Tilt

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Two Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball teams on the upswing are set to battle Wednesday when Morehead State hosts Belmont. Game time is 6 p.m. ET at Johnson Arena.

Morehead State (10-12, 6-3 OVC) has won four of its last five games, while Belmont (8-14, 5-4 OVC) enters the mid-week tilt with four straight victories. 

Tickets, which are only $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 2-12, are available here. Parking is free.

Game notes heading into the contest:

The Series
• In a series that began in 1976-77, Belmont leads MSU 6-2.
Belmont has won all four meetings in the OVC-era (last two seasons). MSU's last win in the series came on Jan. 19, 1998.

Records Are Made to Be Broken
Senior guard Almesha Jones set the Morehead State career assist record on Jan. 24 at Jacksonville State. She broke Irene (Moore) Strong's mark of 499, held since 1982.
Jones now ranks 10th in OVC history with 517 assists, surpassing former Murray State all-OVC guard Amber Guffey.

Keeping Up With the Joneses
• Almesha Jones is the 22nd member of Morehead State's 1,000-point club. She now has 1,298 points in 109 career games and is ranked 16th in scoring at MSU.
Jones ranks second in the nation in total assists (174) and is third in assists per game (7.9). She has five double-digit assist games.
Jones, who leads the OVC in minutes played, has played all 40 minutes in 11 of MSU's 22 games. She played 200 consecutive minutes in MSU's five games from Dec. 17-Jan. 8.
In the last five games, Jones averaged 24. points and 7.2 assists.

First-Year Frenzy
Freshman forward Eriel McKee has scored in double figures in 17 of the 19 collegiate games she's appeared in.
McKee leads all OVC freshmen in rebounding, pulling down 9.2 per game. She has seven double-doubles.
McKee collected a career-best 16 rebounds in the 76-58 win over Eastern Kentucky last Saturday.

Steele The One
• Shay Steele leads the OVC in blocked shots (43). She is now eighth in career blocks (70) at Morehead State.
Steele has four 20-point games this year.
She has scored in double figures in eight of the last 11 games.

Comeback Kids
Morehead State has trailed at some point in eight of its 10 victories this season. The largest deficit overcome has been seven in a 64-63, last-second win versus Murray State on Jan. 3.

Pounding the Paint
After averaging only 21 points in the paint last year, MSU averages 35.9 this year.
In the last four games, the Eagles averaged 40 points in the lane.
