COOKEVILLE, Tenn. –
Despite a go-ahead grand slam by senior shortstop Robby Spencer, the Morehead State baseball team ultimately fell 9-8 at Tennessee Tech in the finale of an Ohio Valley Conference series at Bush Stadium Monday.

The Golden Eagles improved to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the league, while the Eagles fell to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

"Baseball is a game of inches, and you look back at one-run losses and think where you could have lost it," Head Coach Mike McGuire said. "We did not pitch very well at the beginning, but I thought we did a nice of battling back. It just didn't go our way today."

TTU first baseman Ryan Flick singled with runners on first and third in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off win. The hit scored shortstop Dylan Bosheers, who finished 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs.

Trailing 6-3 in the fifth, MSU loaded the bases before Spencer cleared them all with his second homer of the year. The Eagles added a solo tally in the top of the sixth, but Tech battled back with two runs in the bottom of the frame before the game-winning hit three innings later.

Tech pitcher Cain Sloan (1-0) only surrendered one hit in the final 3.2 innings to pick up the win. MSU freshman right-hander Seth Boyle (0-1), who tossed a one-two-three frame in the eighth, allowed a lead-off walk in the ninth and was saddled with the loss.

Besides Bosheer's offense, three TTU players also had multi-hit games. David Allen went 2-for-5 with two doubles, while Anthony El Chibani and Chase Chambers chipped in two of Tech's 13 hits.

Morehead State finished with nine hits, led by senior left fielder Nick Newell's 3-for-4 effort. He now has a five-game hitting streak and paces the Eagles with a .400 batting average. Senior catcher Chris Robinson was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, while senior first baseman Kane Sweeney extended his hitting streak to seven.

Tennessee Tech opened up a 5-1 advantage after two frames off MSU starting hurler Matt Anderson. Bosheers homered in both innings.

"Winning two out of three, especially on the road, is big anytime," McGuire said. "We would have liked to have finished off the sweep, but it didn't happen. These were three very hard-fought games. We did enough in games one and two, we just have to forget about this and get ready for another busy week."

Morehead State is scheduled for five games in the next six days. The Eagles are slated to host Ohio at 3 p.m. ET Tuesday, travel to Tennessee for a 5 p.m. contest Wednesday and host Southeast Missouri for an OVC trio beginning Friday.
