NCAA RELEASE
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State volleyball program has been publicly recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association for a perfect multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR). The NCAA's latest study covers the 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years.
The program ranks in the top 10 percent of all Division I sports teams during the four-year cohort. MSU was one of three Ohio Valley Conference volleyball programs to be publicly honored. The Eagles most recently posted a 3.70 grade point average in the fall and 3.80 GPA in the spring.
"Our volleyball student-athletes take their academics very seriously," Assistant AD for Student-Athlete Services & Senior Woman Administrator Sara Larson said. "They work diligently in the classroom and deserve the public recognition. We are so proud of everything they continue to achieve."
Seven Morehead State volleyball players managed 4.00 GPAs in the fall, while six Eagles recorded a perfect score in the spring. MSU has notched six straight American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Awards and six OVC Team Academic Awards over the past seven years.
Morehead State volleyball has also earned public APR recognition each of the past four years.
"I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes and staff," Head Coach Jaime Gordon said. "Our players have a deep commitment to receiving their degrees from Morehead State. I believe that starts during the recruiting process. Our primary goal is to help prospects find a university that will be the right fit for them both academically and athletically. The academic resources we have at MSU are second-to-none, and our staff makes each student-athlete's education a very high priority."
The NCAA publicly recognizes select Division I sports teams each year by announcing their latest multi-year APR. The release is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and student-athlete retention.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR takes into account eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a full assessment of each team's academic performance.
