MSU Student-Athletes Record 3.11 GPA for Spring Semester

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State's student-athletes recorded a 3.11 cumulative grade point average during the spring semester, while 11 athletic programs posted better than a 3.00 GPA and 30 individuals registered a 4.00 GPA.  The figures encompass more than 250 athletes who competed in NCAA-sponsored sports this past semester.

"We are proud of these teams and individuals for their terrific semester in the classroom," Assistant AD for Student-Athlete Services & Senior Woman Administrator Sara Larson said.  "We certainly want our teams to be competitive in their respective sports, but we also want our student-athletes to do well academically and earn their college degrees."

Morehead State was selected by the NCAA in 2012 as one of six institutions to be part of a program aimed at increasing student-athlete academic performance.  The NCAA has awarded MSU $300,000 through the Accelerating Academic Success Program grant for the 2015-16 school year.  The Eagles have now reached the program's fully-funded status.

As part of the grant, Morehead State Athletics added a full-time academic learning coordinator to its staff.  The academics staff now includes four staff members plus graduate and student assistants.  The money has also helped maintain the EAGLE Center, which features 7,000 square feet of computer labs, learning labs, study space and offices.

"We are very grateful to the NCAA and our university leadership for their generosity and commitment to our student-athletes," Larson said.  "The academic results continue to get better each school year.  We have always been proud of what our student-athletes accomplish in the classroom, but this additional funding has helped take our success to new level."
