Kruunenberg claims Flight A Title as Men's Tennis shines

CHICAGO, Il. - Morehead State Tennis continued it's successful tournament run into the final day of the River Forest Collegiate Invitational in Chicago.
 
Junior Ritchie Kruunenberg led the way as he won the Flight A Singles Title, defeating South Dakota senior Lovro Curcija in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. Fellow junior Gabriel Ruiz won the Flight A consolation bracket against SDSU senior Mateus Moreira in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. The duo capped of the day winning the Flight A Doubles Title, 8-3 over Xavier.
 
The Eagles also had success in Flight B, with sophomore Sebastian Penaloza taking the tournament in singles over Western Michigan freshman Matej Svjetlicic in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. Penaloza and senior Nick Mercer finished second in  Flight B doubles, losing 6-5 to the University Illinois-Chicago.
 
"The trip to Chicago was an encouraging one," said assistant coach Van Damrongsri. "I was really happy about the results. The guys were able to incorporate the type of game play that we have been teaching. We played well, but we still have a lot we can improve on."
