CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Morehead State Tennis continued the fall season as both men's and women's squads traveled to compete in the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invite over the weekend.
In men's singles play five Eagles saw action. Beginning in flight one, junior Ritchie Kruuenberg defeated Chua Nicholas of the University of Chicago in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 but fell to Matt Browne of Furman, 6-4, 6-2. In flight two, junior
Gabriel Ruiz won his first match defeating Bernardo Sanson of Dayton in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, and was bested by Northern Kentucky's Jody Maginley, 7-6 (10-5), 6-4. Flight four featured sophomore
Jose Zurro defeating Van Der Heijden of Saint Francis in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Zurro then fell to University of Chicago's Jonathan Li, 6-1, 6-2.
Flight three had senior
Nick Mercer losing his first match in three sets, 7-6, 5-7, 10-7 to Xavier's Gabriel Araujo. Senior
Garrett Mandrell competed in flight six, losing in his opening match to Phil Gruber of Case Western Reserve, 6-3, 6-1.
For the women's side of the bracket, three Eagles saw action including senior
Ayaka Terashi. In her opening match Terashi defeated NKU's Klara Skopac in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. She carried her momentum into her second match against Valparasio's Cary Milanes, defeating her 6-1, 6-4. In Terashi's third match Maryls Bridgham of Dayton claimed the win, 6-1, 7-5.
Flight four featured sophomore
Aleksandra Savic winning in her opening match in straight sets over Milanes, 6-1, 6-4. Savic fell in her second match to NKU's Danielle Donahue in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore
Maria Orellana competed in flight 5, losing her opening match Milanes, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles play, Terashi partnered with junior
Hayley Wild to win their opening match 6-3 over Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Kentucky. Terashi and Wild then fell 6-0 to Dayton. Savic and Orellana lost both matches in flight two, both to Dayton 6-4.
