Women's Hoops falls to Austin Peay, 96-75

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State women's basketball team fell on Wednesday night to Austin Peay, 96-75. Junior guard Brianna McQueen led the Eagles with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 7-13 overall and 1-5 in league play.

"We played so well on the road trip, but tonight we didn't bring enough fight or enough energy to beat a very good Austin Peay team," said Head Coach Greg Todd. "We have to do a better job of getting our team ready to bring energy to a game on our home floor."

Morehead State trailed just 26-20 after the first quarter, but APSU won the second quarter, 26-16, and jumped out to a 52-36 lead at halftime. Austin Peay built the first half lead to as much as 21 points, but the Eagles scored the last five points of the half to trim the lead to six. In the second half, MSU trimmed the lead to 16 two more times, but could not get any closer.

Morehead State finished the game shooting 33 percent from the field and 70 percent from the charity stripe. Both teams finished the game with 46 rebounds, but the Eagles outrebounded the Lady Govs on the offensive end, 21-10. The Eagles claimed the edge on second chance points, 17-10.

Junior forward Shay Steele led the Eagles in rebounds with eight to go along with six points.  
 
Sophomore guard Eriel McKee and McQueen led the way for the Eagles with 17 points each. McKee has now scored in double digits in 24 straight games.

Freshman guard Miranda Crockett and senior guard Natalie Greenwell added ten points each, as Greenwell hit all six of her shots from the free throw line.

Senior guard Tiasha Gray led the way for the Lady Governors with 28 points and 13 assists, after recording 22 points and eight assists in the first half.
 
The Eagles return to Johnson Arena to face Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
