CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – With a 10-3 record in tow, Morehead State women's basketball opens Ohio Valley Conference play at Austin Peay on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
The Eagles ended their non-league slate with a 77-68 victory over Canisius on Dec. 19, propelling Morehead State to its best start to the season since 2001-02. With the season's last loss coming on the road at then-No. 16 West Virginia on Nov. 30, the win over Canisius also gave the Eagles their first five-game winning streak since 2010-11.
Morehead State has been led by redshirt-sophomore
Darianne Seward, despite having just three games under her belt. The 5-foot-4 transfer from Detroit Mercy totes a team-best 11.7 points and 6.7 assists per game, thanks in part to a seven-point, 13-dish outing in the Eagles' latest contest.
Eriel McKee (11.4),
Brianna McQueen (11.0), and
Aaliyah Wells (10.5) also average double-digit scoring outputs.
Austin Peay enters OVC play with a 6-7 record, but has won five of its seven games at home. Louisville native Tearra Banks leads the Governors in both scoring (16.2 per game) and rebounding (8.2). Austin Peay defeated Morehead State 96-75 at Johnson Arena last season.
