MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State football program has wrapped up its recruiting class for the 2016 season, and Head Coach
Rob Tenyer is thrilled with the 26 athletes he and his staff have added to the roster.
Names and complete bio information will be released on MSUEagles.com at a later date. Of the 26 newcomers, 20 served as a high school team captain. The class includes 10 all-state selections and 21 players with a 3.0-or-better grade-point average.
The class also represents a diverse cross section of the United States, with eight in-state Kentucky players. Other states the newcomers hail from are Ohio (5), Tennessee (3), Georgia (3), Indiana (2), Maryland (2), Florida (1) and Washington D.C. (1).
"This class is outstanding in many ways, but the versatility and speed of the athletes is what gets me excited," Tenyer said. "Our staff did a terrific job of finding guys with great academic resumes, character and work ethic. I believe this is the class, with the combination of our current players, that will have us competing for the PFL Championship in the immediate future."
Morehead State inked 10 offensive players.Â
"Offensively, we searched for prospects with explosive and big-play capabilities," Tenyer added. "We added athletes who were dangerous with the football, but were also willing to play with great effort without the ball."
The Eagles also added 13 on defense.
"Defensively, we wanted to recruit productive and physical players," he said. "Players who finish at the point of attack, and play with grit."
In addition, MSU has three new special teams athletes.
"I think we hit the jackpot regarding our kicking and snapping," Tenyer said. "Plus, I believe we have some guys who are explosive enough to help us in the return game."
Morehead State returns seven all-conference picks from 2015 when the Eagles posted their best overall (7-4) and Pioneer Football League (6-2) marks since 2007. Information on spring practices and the spring game will be forthcoming on MSUEagles.com, Twitter (@MSUEagles) and Facebook (MSUEagles).
