Women's Hoops falls victim to buzzer beater at TSU, 78-76

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Morehead State women's basketball team fell 78-76 to Tennessee State on a last second buzzer beater by Brianna Lawrence on Saturday night.

The loss moves the Eagles to 9-16 overall and 3-8 in OVC play. TSU improves to 10-14 and 5-6 in league play.

Trailing 76-74 with 11 seconds to go, junior guard Brianna McQueen drove the lane and tied the game with a layup with 4.5 seconds to go. On the next possession,TSU's Lawrence went the length of the court and knocked down a 15-footer as the buzzer sounded, giving the Tigers the 78-76 win.

The Eagles battled from behind for most of the night, but would not go away. Their largest lead of the game was just two midway through the first half and their last lead came at 65-64 with 7:34 to go in the game.

Morehead State dominated the glass, outrebounding the Tigers, 36-26, and scored 20 second chance points. But, they committed 17 turnovers, 11 of which came in the first half, and allowed TSU to shoot 12-of-25 from three-point range.

Freshman guard Miranda Crockett led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points, on 9-of-11 shooting, and pulled down four rebounds. She also committed a team-high six turnovers. 

Sophomore guard Eriel McKee, who was held scoreless for the first time in her career last time out against Belmont, finished with 17 points and six rebounds. McQueen added 14 points, five assists, and four rebounds.

Lawrence finished with a team-high 18 points for the Tigers. She was 4-of-8 from three-point range.

Morehead State returns home next Saturday to face Belmont. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
