Baseball absorbs 15-3 setback at Ohio Tuesday

ATHENS, Ohio – The Morehead State baseball team surrendered five first-inning runs to the Ohio Bobcats and never recovered Tuesday night, falling 15-3 at Bob Wren Stadium.
 
MSU fell to 21-17 on the 2016 campaign, while Ohio inched closer to .500 at 17-19.
 
"The bottom line was they came ready to play, and we didn't," said head coach Mike McGuire. "It is disappointing we cannot seem to put two straight good days together. They beat us in all three phases."
 
After getting the Eagles out in order to open the game, Ohio connected on four hits and scored five times in the bottom of the first, plating the final two on a throwing error. The flurry chased MSU starter Luke Humphreys from the contest, ultimately dropping his 2016 record to 4-3.
 
The Bobcats went down quietly until the fifth when they strung together six straight hits to open the frame and finished with seven runs off three Eagle pitchers in the inning.
 
Morehead State finally broke through with two runs in the eighth. Pinch hitter Niko Hulsizer reached on a throwing error, which also went into the dugout, allowing freshman Tanner Buenting and junior Ryan Kent to score. Hulsizer was credited with one RBI on the play.
 
Kent added the final tally when he crossed the plate after a wild pitch in the ninth.
 
Ohio righthanded starter Michael Klein only surrendered one hit in five innings to move to 1-2 this season.
 
The Eagles had six hits, led by Kent and junior rightfielder Will Schneider with two each. Schneider posted his team-best 17^th multi-hit outing.
 
MSU moves back into conference play this weekend at SIU Edwardsville. Game one of the three-game set is at 7 p.m. ET Friday.
