Men's Tennis falls in opening round of OVC Tourney

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In the opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tennis Championship, No. 5 Morehead State fell to No. 4 Jacksonville State, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center.

The Eagles finish the season with a 6-12 record. The Gamecocks (10-14) will go on to play No. 1 Tennessee Tech on Saturday.

JSU started the day by winning two matches in doubles play to take an early 1-0 advantage. Juniors Ritchie Kruunenberg and Gabriel Ruiz's match went unfinished so they remain undefeated in league play as a doubles pair at 6-0.

Seniors Enrique Samudio and Garrett Mandrell were defeated in straight sets. In their careers, the tandem led Morehead State to top six finishes and appearances in the OVC Tournament in each of their four seasons.

Freshman Ognjen Sunjevaric competed in his first conference tournament and fell in straight sets. With the defeat, Sunjevaric's three-match winning streak came to a close.
