CHARLESTON, Ill. -- The Morehead State baseball team dropped its series finale at Eastern Illinois, 6-2, at Coaches Stadium Saturday.
The Panthers improved to 9-37 overall and 4-20 in the OVC, while the Eagles slipped to 27-22 overall and 13-11 in the league.
Senior first baseman
Jesus Carrera provided both RBI for the Eagles as he plated sophomore
Tyler Niemann with a ground out in the second frame and lifted his second home run of the year over the fence in right field in the top of the seventh.
Joseph Duncan was 4-for-5 with two RBI for the hosts. Duncan tallied run-scoring singles in the sixth and eighth innings. The Panthers broke open a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth.
MSU sophomore starter
Aaron Leasher recorded eight strikeouts but absorbed the loss to fall to 5-3. He upped his season strikeout total to 103, joining teammate
Matt Anderson as the only duo in program history with at least 100 Ks in the same season.
EIU starter Chase Thurston surrendered only the two runs in seven innings to move to 1-4. Junior rightfielder
Will Schneider notched his team-leading 23rd multi-hit outing with two hits.
Morehead State is idle this week and returns to action next Friday at 5 p.m. ET at Allen Field for the first game in the Jacksonville State series.Â
