MOREHEAD, Ky. - Senior
Anna Magnusson has been named OVC Golfer of the Week following her win at the Golfweek Program Challenge in Pawley's Island, S.C. It marks the third time that she has been named OVC Player of the Week as she received the honor twice last season.
Magnusson's final tally at the GPC was 71-67-72-210, making her the only golfer to end the competition below par. She finished at three-under and won the tournament by three strokes. The win marked the third of her career at Morehead State and for the second straight year she has won the first tournament of the fall season.
"I hit the ball like I wanted to all three rounds and had a lot of birdie opportunities," said Magnusson. "I put myself in position from the tee and rolled in some putts. The course and event were great. I had a good feeling going into this tournament."
She opened the tournament with an even-par round of 71 on Sunday and entered the second round tied for fifth place. She made her move to the top of the leaderboard late in the second round. She entered the eighth hole at one-over for the day, but recorded a birdie and went to the turn at even-par. She then closed the day with birdies on four of her final seven holes to open up a three-stroke lead.
Midway through the final round, she bogied three of four holes, but the Taby, Sweden, native settled in and finished one-under through the final eight holes to seal the victory.
Magnusson has been named All-OVC all three years at Morehead State and was named OVC Player of the Year following her sophomore season. Last season, she was named Miss Eagle, which is an award given to individuals who typically stand out within the Ohio Valley Conference and are often in the national spotlight.
